Musgrave, Team Mopar look to rebound at Dover.

DOVER, DE (May 28, 2002) - After a trio of troublesome races, Ted Musgrave and his No. 1 Mopar Performance Parts Dodge Ram will be looking to regain their winning form when the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series returns to Dover Downs International Speedway for the MBNA America 200.

"Dover is one of the more unique tracks we race on," said Musgrave. "It's concrete, high banked and the laps we run are unbelievably fast. The racetrack can be extremely nerve wracking and it almost dares you to drive harder and harder into the corner until you lose control. Dover is a self-cleaning racetrack because if you spin or have any trouble, it collects you down on the inside. Both the corners and the straightaways are high banked which doesn't allow you to have any type of easy spin. If you lose control, you're going to wreck."

Musgrave is hoping to avoid the wrath of Dover's "Monster Mile" after a string of bad luck in the last three NCTS events. In the most recent tour race at Pikes Peak International Raceway, Musgrave qualified his Mopar Dodge on the outside of row one and raced for the lead throughout the event until a flat right-rear tire on Lap 128 relegated the Franklin, WI driver to a 16th-place finish.

"I'm not sure how it happened or where it came from, but I ran over something on the racetrack and cut down the right rear tire," said Musgrave. "It was a shame because we were able to run just as fast as the leader once we settled into the run. We've been fighting bad luck quite a bit lately. Hopefully, we have gotten all of that out of our system and we'll be there at the end to fight for the win at Dover."

Last year in the Truck Series race at Dover, Musgrave started fifth and, despite some communication problems, still managed to finish fourth.

"We struggled a bit last year, but we managed to finish in the Top-5," explained Musgrave. "The key to being successful at Dover is having a good handling truck, then you can have a lot of fun. A good shock package and spring balance is very, very important at that racetrack. You can run the inside or outside groove to make some passes as the race progresses."

"It's not a place where you want to have any contact because you're pretty much on the edge for 200 laps," continued Musgrave. "It's physically and mentally demanding and you've got to have a lot of nerve to run there."

While in Dover, Musgrave and his Ultra Motorsports teammate, Jason Leffler, will visit Poly Tech High School on behalf of ASE (National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence) to inform young people about careers in the automotive service industry.

"ASE has supported Ultra Motorsports since 1995," commented Musgrave. "Not only do they sponsor Jason's truck, they also support my son Justin in the late model stock car he races at Hickory (NC) Speedway. Visiting young people at schools allows me to give something back, not only to ASE, but to the community of Dover as well. I always enjoy going out into the community and spending time with the people who support us all year. If I can give something back and spread the ASE message, it makes my job that much better."

The MBNA America 200 will take the green flag Friday, May 31 at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The event will be telecast live on ESPN and broadcast on MRN radio nationwide.
