Tire troubles leave Sauter 15th at Dover
Dover, Del. (May 15, 2010) -- Johnny Sauter was just six laps away from slaying the Monster Mile, but a flat right front tire on lap 194 sent the No. 13 In Country Television/Curb Records Chevrolet into the turn four wall and out of contention for a top-five finish in the Dover 200 at Dover International Speedway. Thanks to some good work behind the wheel and then some quick work to make repairs on pit road, the damage was minimized and repaired giving Sauter a chance to recover to 15th at the finish.
"We had a great truck today and we were in a great position to get another top-five finish but the right front went down and we got up into the wall," Sauter said. "There were a few other right front tire failures today and those guys weren't as fortunate as we were. We just barely bounced off the fence and the guys did a good job of getting it repaired enough to get back out and get us to the end.
"That's the second top-five finish this year that slipped away from us within the last few laps, so we're a little frustrated right now. But the flip side of that coin is that these guys have built awesome trucks this year and we're in contention every week. I don't know what we could have done differently in either of those races, Martinsville and here, to change what happened. Those things are out of your control so we're going to concentrate on what we can control and keep building fast race trucks and let the chips fall where they may. We aren't letting this get us down though, we have a lot of momentum and we're going to get us a lot more wins this season."
With the misfortune at Dover, Sauter dropped a couple of positions in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series standings to seventh but he remains in the thick of the championship hunt. He's just four points behind sixth-place Ricky Carmichael and eleven points out of fifth. Sauter is now 159 points behind championship leader Aric Almirola with 18 races yet to go in the 2010 season.
Next up for Sauter and the No. 13 ThorSport Racing/Curb Records Chevrolet is the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday May 21.
