HOMESTEAD, Fla., (Feb. 26, 2000) - Joe Ruttman, driver of the #18 DANA Dodge, led all Dodge Rams by earning a fourth place finish at today's running of the fifth annual Florida Dodge Dealers 400K at the 1.5 mile Homestead-Miami Speedway. Ruttman, who started on the pole, led the first 23 laps while running in the top five all afternoon en-route to earning Dodge its best finish this season. Other Dodge Rams finishing, in order, were Randy Tolsma (sixth), Steve Grissom (11th). Mike Cope (15th) Randy Renfrow (25th). Dennis Setzer (32nd) and Carlos Contreras (33rd).
Joe Ruttman, #18 DANA Corporation Dodge Ram, Finished Fourth
"We got a little closer with our DANA Dodge today, but we just weren't fast enough to catch the leaders. My crew did a super job getting this Dodge prepared to race and I wanted to bring them and Dodge a win. To qualify on the pole here and run in the top five all day is a credit to the Dodge engineers and this race team. We still have a ways to go but we know that we're heading in the right direction."
Randy Tolsma, #25 Supergard Motor Oil Dodge Ram, Finished Sixth
"I wish that we could have finished five spots higher, but otherwise a real solid job today for this Supergard Motor Oil Dodge. We just never missed a beat all day, Our only problem was trying to deal with the lapped traffic. My crew did a great job getting me out of the pits and saved us track position all day. We struggled a bit with understanding what our Goodyear tires liked, but we got a handle on it as the race went on. We'll just take this sixth place finish and head for Phoenix."
Steve Grissom, #43 Dodge Motorsports Dodge Ram, Finished 11th
"We did our best to bring Dodge home a win at their sponsored event. Overall, a good day for our Dodge by Petty team. We just couldn't seem to gain track position on the leaders at anytime during the race. Traffic became a problem midway through the race which forced you to be a little cautious in the corners. Considering that it is only my second race in this series and the first here at Homestead, I'm pleased with our results."
Dennis Setzer, #1 Mopar Performance Dodge Ram, Finished 32nd
"Our Mopar Dodge was running flawlessly until we broke something off the front of the crank shaft. We're still not sure what and how, all we do know is that it caused a series of chain reactions underneath the hood which ripped all the belts off the motor. It really caught me by surprise because there wasn't any indication that the truck was in trouble. Once we got it behind the wall, we saw the damage was too excessive which marked end of our day. We just don't seem to have the greatest luck here at Homestead. Last year we broke a motor on the first lap and today you saw what happened. This K-Automotive Mopar Dodge team will bounce back, I guarantee it."
