Day ends early for Leffler, Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge at Daytona.

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Feb. 14, 2003) - Jason Leffler and the Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge were swept up in a grinding crash on Lap 42 of the Florida Dodge Dealers 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event Friday at Daytona International Speedway. Leffler became entangled with his Ultra Motorsports teammate Ted Musgrave when Musgrave's Mopar Dodge encountered trouble near the halfway through the race. The crash relegated Leffler to a 30th place finish.

"I was following Ted down into Turn 1 and he had a left rear tire go down," Leffler said. "I stayed up on the high side then shot down to the bottom. I thought I was going to be clear of the wreck, but our Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge didn't make it as Ted's truck came up right in front of me and I hit him with my left front."

The crash proved to be a disappointing end to a week that began with great promise after Leffler won the pole position Tuesday posting a fast lap of 182.994 miles per hour. Leffler's Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge then led the 36-truck field to the green flag Friday pacing the first lap before settling in with the front pack over the next 30 circuits. Leffler pitted under caution on Lap 33 changing four tires, adding a full load of fuel and making a track bar adjustment. Shortly afterward, Leffler saw his day end prematurely when his Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge exited the event at Lap 42.

"The truck was handling great, really good," Leffler said. "We will recover from this and get on with the season. Good teams overcome adversity and this team can certainly do that."

The next stop for The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is at Darlington Raceway, Friday, March 14 at 4 p.m. The Too Tough to Tame 200 at Darlington will be broadcast live on the Speed Channel and MRN radio.
