Leffler, Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge capture NCTS pole at Daytona.
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Feb. 11, 2003) - The Ultra Motorsports Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge was the first truck to take to the track during pole qualifying for the Florida Dodge Dealers 250 at Daytona International Speedway, and at the end of the two-hour session it still held the top spot as driver Jason Leffler captured his ninth pole in the last 23 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events.
"The weather really didn't change all that much from our run to the last guy out," Leffler said. "If we were at a short track where handling is at a premium then it would make a big difference but here at Daytona it didn't make that much of a difference."
Leffler outpaced last year's winner Robert Pressley and Ultra teammate Ted Musgrave to take the top spot.
"Our truck has just seemed to be a little bit quicker than Ted's throughout pre-season testing," Leffler stated. "Ted will be very good in the race as will a lot of guys. Once we start drafting and all the trucks get mixed up I think you will see a lot of teams run good."
Leffler is looking forward to leading his Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge to the green flag on Friday. The pomp and circumstance that surrounds Daytona International Speedway is not lost on the 27-year old Long Beach, CA native.
"With all the history here it is great to win the pole here," Leffler said. "To win a race here at Daytona would just be awesome. I am really looking forward to the race."
The Florida Dodge Dealers 250 NCTS race at Daytona International Speedway will be televised live by the Speed Channel and broadcast by MRN Radio at 1 pm Friday, February 14.
