Curry Racing, Inc. To Run In the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
February 17, 2006 -- DAYTONA, FL - Curry Racing, Inc. owned and created by former NFL star Julius Curry has announced an alliance with Montgomery Motorsports, Inc to run a limited schedule in the NASCAR Truck Series in 2006. Curry Racing, Inc. is the first African American owned NASCAR team in NASCAR history is also planning on participating in selected races in the Busch Series.
The unveiling of this pioneering effort will take place at the Daytona International Speedway, today, Friday February 17, 2006. The starting flag will be at 8:30PM and driving for the Curry Racing, Inc is Chase Montgomery
Julius Curry, former NFL star and University of Michigan football star has demonstrated to everyone that there is life after football. Taking his football skills and combining them with his college studies in Sports Marketing has established Curry Racing, Inc. as one of NASCAR"S premiere racecar owners. "Our entry into NASCAR is focused on enhancing the diversity effort of NASCAR through minority ownership of a team on a long term basis." "This ground breaking alliance will allow us to compile and build a team for a full season run in 2007", said Mr. Curry.
This partnership with Montgomery Motorsports, Inc has afforded Julius Curry the opportunity to field a racing team for 2006. There is now much likelihood for new sponsors to enter the NASCAR arena and build a successful African American owned team. Overseeing Curry's Racing, Inc. into the NASCAR fold is Sam Belnavis, former Director of Sports Marketing for Miller Brewing CO. and is currently the Director of Roush Racing's Diversity Program. "He is probably the only African American so far that has made significant contributions to NASCAR and with Sam's assistance and the partnership with Montgomery MotorSports, I hope to further help NASCAR in their diversity efforts", so states Mr. Curry.
