KYLE BUSCH, KEN SCHRADER ALSO READY TO TAKE ON THE CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES REGULARS
BROOKLYN, Mich.- NASCAR NEXTEL Cup drivers Bobby Labonte and Kevin Harvick, along with two other Cup regulars, will be competing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Paramount Health Insurance 200 on Saturday, June 18. In addition, Kyle Busch and Ken Schrader will also compete in the truck event on Saturday.
MIS will host the Paramount Health Insurance 200, a high-speed, action-filled prelude to the June 19 Batman Begins 400 that is part of NASCAR's Nextel Cup Series. It is the first time in track history a Craftsman Truck race will run in June.
In all, an impressive 18 drivers with NEXTEL Cup experience will be competing in the Paramount Health Insurance 200 on Saturday.
In just his fifth career truck start, Bobby Labonte became a member of the "Triple Crown Club" earlier this year with a victory in the Kroger 250 Craftsman Truck event at Martinsville on April 9. In fact, Labonte became the first driver in NASCAR history to win a race in each of the top-three major divisions at Martinsville.
Labonte could also make history at MIS this weekend by winning the Paramount Health Insurance 200, which would give him victories in all three top divisions at Michigan. He has three Cup wins and one Busch victory at MIS in his career. This will be his third appearance in a truck this season but first at the MIS 2-mile oval.
"I'm excited to get a chance to drive the No. 47 Chevrolet Silverado at Michigan," Labonte said. "I really like working with Randy Goss and all the guys at Morgan Dollar Motorsports (MDM). We had a lot of fun at Atlanta and Martinsville and, hopefully, we can do well at Michigan. I've always liked racing at Michigan. It's my favorite track on the schedule, so it's a going to be a pretty neat deal to be able to run in the Silverado on Saturday and then in our Interstate Batteries Monte Carlo on Sunday. We'll also be in the Busch race at Michigan in the fall, in our Eckrich car for ConAgra Foods, so to get to do four races at Michigan in one year is pretty cool. I'm looking forward to it."
Kevin Harvick will be making his first appearance in a truck at MIS since he finished 11th in the 1999 event. Harvick has two truck and five Cup victories to his credit. His lone victory at MIS came in 2003 on the Busch circuit.
"I am pretty excited to be going to Michigan in the No. 92 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet. I've had some success there in the Cup car, and I've even won a Busch race," said Harvick. "There's a little extra pressure to perform since we are virtually in GM's back yard. But Ron Hornaday and the Goodwrench truck have really been running well this year, so I expect to see us both in the hunt. Hopefully one of the two of us will be in Victory Lane at the end of the day."
Kyle Busch will be looking for his third consecutive victory in the truck series after posting wins at Charlotte and Dover in back-to-back races on May 20 and June 4. Busch did not compete in the truck race at Texas last weekend due to the NEXTEL Cup race at Pocono. Busch has been on a hot streak over the last month, which includes two truck, one Busch series, and three top-five Cup finishes in the past four weeks.
"I asked Billy (Ballew) to save the truck we won Lowe's and Dover with for Michigan. I think this weekend will be another fun weekend. The team has given me great trucks and they are just fun to drive," said Busch. "They say the third time is a charm, so three in a row would be nice for us and I am hoping to have the same type of performance and put this Chevy Silverado back in victory lane."
Ken Schrader will be looking for his first victory in a truck race since 1995. Schrader has four career wins in the Cup series and 12 victories in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, which includes a win at Toledo Speedway on May 22. He will compete in the third Toyota Tundra for Darrell Waltrip Motorsports, alongside teammates David Reutimann and Robert Huffman.
Tickets still remain for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Batman Begins 400 Sunday, June 19. Great seats are also still available for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Paramount Health Insurance 200 on Saturday, June 18 and the ARCA RE/MAX Series Hantz Group 200 on Friday June 17.
