Move to NASCAR TV gives fans more coverage and teams more exposure.
LOS ANGELES (Sept. 30, 2002)-- The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) will air its NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) on SPEED Channel beginning with the 2003 season, creating more programming and exposure for the series on NASCAR TV, NASCAR Vice President of Broadcasting Paul Brooks announced.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has firmly established itself as one of the premier racing series in the country. Placing it on SPEED Channel, which was acquired by FOX Cable Networks Group in 2001 and is home to NASCAR TV, raises the profile of the series by offering more live event coverage, new programming opportunities and expanded cross promotion on FOX. With SPEED Channel, NASCAR fans will have a new destination for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and series drivers, teams, tracks and sponsors will receive added value through additional programming and promotional opportunities.
"Across the board, broadcasting the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series on SPEED makes sense for our fans, drivers, teams, tracks, and sponsors," Brooks said."NASCAR is the heart and soul of the SPEED Channel and with added programming, pre- and post-race shows and cross promotional opportunities, it is the logical place for us to grow series."

According to Nielsen Media Research released in August, SPEED Channel's growth is leading the sports cable charts with the network adding more than 10 million homes since the change of ownership and the creation of NASCAR TV last summer. SPEED Channel is now in 58.5 million homes in the U.S. and Canada, and was rated as the fastest growing sports cable network in the U.S. and the ninth-fastest growing cable network overall by Nielsen.
The addition of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series to the SPEED Channel 2003 programming lineup continues the strategy that created the network's rapid growth -- more NASCAR and more live racing.
NASCAR TV launched on Feb. 6, 2002, and is an unprecedented, dedicated block of NASCAR-related programming, including Inside Winston Cup, Trackside, live NASCAR Winston Cup Series qualifying and Happy Hour final practice. It is found exclusively on SPEED Channel and is the first channel within a channel devoted to a single sport.
ESPN will conclude its run as home to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with the series finale on Nov. 15, at Homestead-Miami Speedway." The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races at a variety of tracks, including short-track"bullrings" and high-banked superspeedways, and have become an increasingly integral part of NASCAR tripleheader weekends. With a combination of close, unpredictable finishes and a variety of tracks, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has become a proving ground for future NASCAR stars, with every former champion having graduated into the NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division or the NASCAR Winston Cup Series.
SPEED Channel, formerly Speedvision, which celebrates its seventh anniversary in January 2003, is the first and only 24-hour cable network devoted exclusively to motorsports. SPEED Channel was acquired by Fox Cable Networks Group in July 2001.
