Sandusky, OHIO (October 1, 2001) - Matt Crafton and the SealMaster Racing team had much to cheer about last Friday at South Boston Speedway. For the No. 88 XesightingSystems.com Silverado team, they captured their tenth top-10 finish of the 2001 NASCAR Craftsman Truck season.
"I was happy to finish 10th because we've had some bad luck over the past four races," stated Matt Crafton, driver of the No. 88 XeSightingSystems.com Chevrolet Silverado and 2000 Champion of the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series. "The left-rear tire had only 7 pounds in it and that is why we lost two positions there at the end. This track was really tough due to the fact it only had one groove which made it very difficult to pass."
The 250-lap race was the first time Crafton had raced at South Boston Speedway. He qualified 21st and finished 10th. Crafton has only raced on five of the 23 different tracks on the NCTS schedule making his rookie year extra challenging.
"Before we race at a track I've never seen, I make sure to learn as much about the track from those who have raced on it before and also play the video games," stated Crafton. "Those games are much closer to the real thing than most people may think."
Mesa Marin, Pikes Peak, Las Vegas, Phoenix and California are tracks where the NCTS schedule competes and where Crafton has raced at least one time.
Crafton has quite an eventful rookie season including holding steady in 3rd place for the Raybestos Rookie of the Year award and being the highest qualifying rookie at two tracks he had never seen before, Chicago Motor Speedway (8th) and Gateway International Raceway (8th).
While in Texas, Crafton will be interviewed live from Texas Motor Speedway this Friday morning with Houston's #1 Rock radio station, KLOL. Later that same day, he will be signing his No. 88 XeSightingSystems.com hero cards from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the Craftsman Tools Interactive Display along the track midway of Texas Motor Speedway.
Earlier this season, SealMaster Racing and Valeo Sylvania's XeSighting SystemsTM (pronounced "exciting systems") High Performance Xenon Headlights announced a partnership through the balance of the 2001 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Season. XeSighting Systems is the major associate sponsor of the No. 88 NASCAR Craftsman Truck for the Silverado 350 at Texas Motor Speedway.
"XeSighting Systems headlights are designed for performance," stated Greg Whalen, Aftermarket Marketing Manager. "We wanted to align this brand with a team that is focused on improving their performance."
Texas Motor Speedway is the only track in the 2001 NCTS schedule to be visited twice. With the tragic events on Sept. 11, the NCTS race was post-poned to this Friday, Oct. 5. The new schedule has the No. 88 XeSightingSystems.com Silverado qualifying on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 5:30 p.m. (central time) The Silverado 350 will be broadcast live on MRN radio this Friday starting at 9pm and television coverage will be taped-delayed and aired on ESPN-2
