Sandusky, Ohio (May 8, 2001) - Matt Crafton and his neon yellow No. 88 FastTrack Chevrolet Silverado finished an impressive 7th place at Gateway International Raceway after the 3-hour rain delay. With this finish, Crafton jumps into 15th in driver points and 3rd in the chase for NASCAR Craftsman Truck Rookie-of-the-Year Award.

"Our goals at the beginning of the season were to win the Rookie championship and finish top 10 in the points," stated Matt Crafton, driver of the No. 88 Craftsman Truck.

As for Crafton's performance during the race, he believes they are close to having the right combination.

"We had a really good truck in the beginning of the race," stated Crafton, "We had a real bad aero push which got worse as it went along. It probably didn't help when I pushed the right front fender in due to one of the lapped trucks hitting me going down the straightaway. We had a good race, the Silverado ran good. We will hit it right one of these days."

Crafton qualified 8th for the Ram Tough 200 race at Gateway. Despite never racing or testing at the track, the rookie felt quite comfortable.

"We're definitely happy, considering I had never even seen this track," stated Crafton. "I compare this track to Phoenix. This place is so much tighter in turns one and two than in Phoenix, but I do like flat tracks and I had most of my success in the Southwest Tour racing on flat tracks."

Crafton is the reigning champion in the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series. He will be racing a limited schedule in that series starting at Pikes Peak International Raceway on May 19th.

Crafton and the No. 88 SealMaster Racing team will be racing in the next event at Darlington Speedway. Qualifying is at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11th. Live race coverage on ESPN begins at 4:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) on Saturday, May 12. MRN radio coverage begins at 3:30 p.m.
