Chevrolet Gateway qualifying notes

JACK SPRAGUE, ...

JACK SPRAGUE, #24 NETZERO PLATINUM SILVERADO (third, first Silverado) -- defending event champion:

"I think this track changed today. When it was sunny out it was looser to me, this afternoon it was tight. Last race we raced under cloud cover. It's a fun race track; both ends are different... We have a brand new truck. We're fighting some bugs. The NetZero Platinum Silverado surprised me in qualifying. We changed about 75 things and it stuck... That was a good qualifying run. If we can get this Silverado to drive anywhere near how it ran last year it will be a good truck...I'm not sure we learned anything all day, we changed so much stuff. It's certainly better now than it has been. We still have more to learn."

ON THE AERO CHANGES GIVEN TO DODGE AND FORD:

"I don't know. In four races I've had two extremely good chances to win, maybe even three...Were we at a disadvantage, I don't know. The only way you can determine that factor is to take three trucks, take them in someone else's hauler and go into the wind tunnel and compare the differences... I love this track. I don't have my truck at the comfort level I think it needs to be at yet."

JIMMY HENSLEY, #72 LEFTBEHIND.COM SILVERADO (sixth):

"It's a pretty good run for us. We were ninth in practice and I thought we had a decent truck. We were shooting for a top 10 and we ended up with a pretty decent lap with the Left-Behind.com Silverado.. We certainly hope we can get dialed in a little bit better and have a good race tomorrow."

HOW DID THE RULE CHANGES FOR THE DODGE AFFECT WHERE YOU ARE IN THE SILVERADO?:

"I haven't raced enough this year to really comment on that. Dodge has been pretty dominant so to this point so far. We need to get a Chevrolet in Victory Lane, and maybe we can do that tomorrow"

MATT CRAFTON, #88 FAST TRACK DRIVEWAY SEALER SILVERADO (eighth, first rookie):

"We're definitely happy, considering I had never even seen this track. We made a bunch of changes to it and I kept changing my line. I compare this track to Phoenix. I had good success in Phoenix because Phoenix is so different on both ends. This place is so much tighter in turns one and two than in Phoenix. I do like flat tracks. I had my success in the Southwest Tour on flat tracks... I like this track so far. After the race I might tell you something different. We went out in practice, we were pretty good, but we were bottoming out quite a bit. We're trying to find a happy medium (on the setup). We also didn't have the right transmission combination. We changed front springs, rearend gear, shocks, we changed quite a bit of stuff. We're not completely happy, but we are good on the long run. I think we will be OK. I didn't do happy hour. The yellow came out (for rain) as I went to get on the track. I didn't get to find out anything."

RICKY HENDRICK, #24 GMAC SILVERADO (ninth):

"We qualified pretty well. We hoped for a top-10 spot and we hit it at ninth. As long as you start in the top 15 you should be OK. The GMAC Silverado was a little tight in the center, but we should be good for the race. I think we will be fast and we have got a good enough start to get us up front. Team GMAC has had top-10 finishes starting as far back as 20th, so I think we will have a really good run."

TRAVIS KVAPIL, #60 CAT RENTAL STORES SILVERADO (10th):

"That was pretty good. We didn't get a chance to do a mock qualifying run in practice. We kind of went into qualifying guessing on the setup. It was pretty close; there was just a little bit left in it. We didn't know what to expect. We qualified in the top 10; that is our goal for every race we do; we did that. I feel like we have a pretty good truck for the race. We made a bunch of changes again after qualifying, We changed the spring, some shock stuff, changed the wedge, a little bit of everything. I think we hit on the package that's pretty close. It's the best the truck's felt for me since we have been here. We had some older tires on it (in happy hour, where Travis was No. 1). I think we ran about 10 hard laps; it seemed really stable. We're pretty optimistic for tomorrow. I think the Cat Rental Stores Silverado will be right up front tomorrow." THIS TRACK IS NOT NEW TO YOU: "I ran here with the Re/Max Challenge car. I raced those cars five times here. I'm fairly familiar with this track. If there's a track that experience helps on this is one of those tracks. It has two different corners on it, just getting laps on a track like this is what kind of helps the most."

DENNIS SETZER, #46 ACXIOM/COMPUTER ASSOCIATES SILVERADO (12th):

"We're not unhappy. We had a pretty good truck before qualifying. I got loose in turn four coming to the checkered flag, so I lost position. We didn't get into happy hour, so we don't know where we are. We're kind of starting the race in the blind."

RICK CARELLI qualified Ken Schrader's #52 FEDERATED AUTO PARTS SILVERADO in 22nd place.
