Las Vegas...Setting an extremely fast pace at the recent two day NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series test at Lowes Motor Speedway, Brendan Gaughan and Orleans Racing feel they are ready for the upcoming Hardee's 200, May 16 at Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord, NC.
"We were really pleased with our test results," says Gaughan, who is currently ranked third overall in the point's battle. "Our No. 62 American Racing Wheels/Orleans Dodge was right on and I think we should be able to finish in the top without any problem."
While this will be the first time the NASCAR Craftsman Trucks have competed on this 1.5-mile oval, it will not be Gaughan's first venture on the track. "I raced at Lowes in 2000 in the ARCA race," explains Gaughan. "Plus I have taught at the Richard Petty Driving Experience here a number of times. Quite frequently when we start out on new tracks everyone is on equal footing. But this won't be true this time. It will be a mixed bag, with some racers knowing the track well, guys like me with some experience and others racing on the track for the first time. A lot is going to depend on equipment and that's where I think we will have an edge."
Saluting association sponsor American Racing Wheels, the No. 62 Dodge will showcase a special paint scheme for this one race. "This will definitely be an important race for me," adds Gaughan with a smile. "American Racing Wheels has been a sponsor of mine for the past 15 years and it is with great pleasure that we fly their colors at the Hardee's 200. Nothing would please me more than to take the Checkered Flag for them." Page 2
With four races completed Gaughan has already posted two top five finishes. "While we always want to win," continues Gaughan, "we know the way to a championship is consistency. If we can continually finish in the top, we have a good chance of taking this year's title."
Based in Las Vegas, Nev., Orleans Racing has more than proven their prowess, both behind the wheel and in the pits. "I feel we have one of the best crews around, says Gaughan. "They really outdo themselves time and time again and it is largely due to their outstanding ability that we are doing well. With their help, I feel that we will continue to have a very successful season."
