Can Bobby Hamilton Make it Back to Back?
Special Olympics: "I had a great time in Mansfield running the TECH-NET Professional Auto Service/Law Enforcement Torch Run Dodge. We won the race and made it two wins for us this year. I got the chance to meet a Special Olympics gold medalist, which was really cool. It's refreshing to see a new outlook on racing from other people. What great people they are. I really enjoyed being a part of that very special cause."
Ground Charlotte?: "I couldn't believe it when I heard that they ground the track at Charlotte. They did a great job on it though. We tested there in the trucks and then I went back and made more laps in the Sadler's Busch car. I'm glad we did so much testing there with the new surface. It will be multi-groove, fast racing for sure now. The fans will get their money's worth on these tickets. Charlotte is one of those places that I would love to win on. I don't really know why I always say that, but it is just the prestige of the track that makes a driver really want to win there. It's a smooth track and Humpy Wheeler and his people do a really good job putting on a race there. I would love to make it back to back wins. Maybe we can get a free meal at the Quaker Steak and Lube since they sponsor the race?"
Fan Club: "I'm really pushing my fan club right now to people. I think we came up with some really great ideas and we are giving race fans a chance to do something they would never be able to do. They can strap into one of my trucks, take some hot laps around a race track with me and eat some lunch. It's not everyday that a fan can get that kind of treatment in a fan club. It's fun for me to try this out and make the most of it. I want to see the turnout we get. I don't think that any other driver offers that type of deal, so I hope people take advantage of the chance to get in a truck and ride."
* The Tennessee native will be racing Slim Shady in Charlotte this weekend.
* Hamilton has raced that truck three times this season. He finished second, third and sixth.
* Last year on Speedway Motorsports tracks, Hamilton finished in the top five three out of six events and in the top 10 five out of six events.
* Hamilton has the most wins this season, he is the only double winner in 2005.
Damage in Mansfield: "We had a storm that hit the first night we were in Mansfield. It did a lot of damage to the grandstands, but it also blew our tents away. It even did some damage to the trucks and blew the covers right off of some of them. It's unfortunate, but what do you do? You just keep digging. We have things that fall off these trucks all the time. It's so frustrating sometimes that you feel like you can't get ahead. Then finally when you get your feet on the ground, something out of the ordinary happens. So it's part of the lifestyle. I'm not making light of the $5,000 or more money that these teams are out of, because I am out of it myself. I have three full teams running out of my shop and Deborah Renshaw's deal running out of BHR2. So we feel it just as a hard as others do. The track did a great job getting it all put back together again for our race and the fans still saw a good show, so that is the main part of why we do these races all over the country."
