Butch Mille Flemington Preview

FLEMINGTON, NJ - Butch Miller, driver of the #18 DANA Dodge likes Flemington Speedway. In three previous NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events at the historic New Jersey oval, Miller has finished in the top-ten twice and top-fifteen once.

Miller is looking to capitalize on his affection for the uniquely shaped track when the DANA Dodge team unloads for the August 8 Stevens Beil/Genuine Car Parts 200.

“I am looking forward to returning to Flemington Speedway,” stated Miller. “I like the track. It is a challenge to drive but seems to suit my style giving us a great opportunity to put the DANA Dodge in victory lane. The track is virtually flat making handling absolutely the number one priority. There is no banking to help you drive harder off the corners so you have to get your truck set up just about perfect in order to power out on to the straights. It is almost a square-oval, forcing you to make each of the tight turns separately instead of smoothly rolling through the corners as you would on a traditionally shaped oval or a round track. If you miss the chassis set- up, all the horsepower in the world isn’t going to get you around the race track.”

The great history surrounding the speedway is of interest to Miller as well. Flemington Speedway is the oldest continuously operating track in the country. The annual appearance of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series demonstrates the evolution of motorsports and offers a compatible blending of the old and the new.

“The museum at the track is incredible,” remarked Miller. “I enjoy seeing the displays of the cars and drivers that have run on the track over the years. Many of the greats of our sport have their roots in Flemington. With the trucks being the newest NASCAR series, it is quite a contrast and truly gives the fans the opportunity to see how much the sport has changed over the years. A Dodge truck has yet to win here. We would like to add the DANA Dodge team to the record books by being the first one to take the Ram to the winner’s circle.”

Bud Pole qualifying for the Stevens Beil/Genuine Car Parts 200, round 16 of the 27 event 1998 NCTS schedule, is scheduled for Saturday, August 8 at 1:00 p.m. EDT. The race will begin at 4:00 p.m. EDT and will be televised live by TNN. NASCAR Truck Network will broadcast the race to over 400 radio station affiliates nationwide.
