David Starr Set To Do The Bristol Stomp
Just like the popular 1961 song says, David Starr and the Spears Motorsports crew plan to be sharp as a pistol when they do the Bristol Stomp at Round 16 of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Wednesday, August 25 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
"I'm definitely excited about racing Bristol this year," says Starr. "It is really a magical track. The layout is incredible, almost like competing in a NFL football field. The fans can see everything and the action is intense. It's one of the most popular races of the season and I feel lucky to be part of it."
Known as the "World's Fastest ½ Mile, Bristol Motor Speedway is a 0.533-mile concrete oval. Steeped in both history and legend, this fast-paced racetrack opened its gates in 1961 and has been showcasing spectacular events ever since. This year's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race will mark the seventh time the trucks have competed there.
"This will be my third go at Bristol," says Starr. "We had a really fast truck last season, but unfortunately we suffered a broken wheel in the early stages and that put us behind the eight-ball and we were never able to catch up. Hopefully this year will tell a different story. We definitely have every intention of putting our No, 75 Spears Chevy on the Podium."
Fresh from a second place finish at Nashville, the Spears team is feeling extremely confident about the upcoming race at Bristol. "I think this will be another good one for us," says Starr who is currently ranked 10th in the overall point standings. "If our Chevy is as strong as last year and we don't have any unforeseen problems, we will definitely be good to go. I've always like short track racing and this track is one of my favorites."
A one-day show, the O'Reilly 200 format is simple - practice, qualify and then race. "You really have to be prepared on these one-day events," continues Starr, "And you need to have a very together crew. That is definitely one of the things we have going for us. The Spears crew is dynamite and well versed on working in perfect unison. Being successful at Bristol means striking the perfect combination of being fast and saving your equipment. You can't win unless you are there at the end and we definitely plan to be there."
Qualifying for the O'Reilly 200 takes place on Wednesday, August 25 at 3:00 PM (ET) and race action gets underway at 9:00 PM (ET). Check out live qualifying on Truckseries.com. The event will air live on SPEED TV.
