Lester Predicting Successful Season with Single-Truck Effort at Billy Ballew Motorsports
Mooresville, NC (January 17, 2007) - Bill Lester spent the three-day test session at the Daytona International Speedway not only preparing for the season-opening NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race on February 16, but also learning a new race team in Billy Ballew Motorsports. Lester and crew chief, Richie Wauters, developed almost an immediate chemistry at the test and both envision a successful 2007 season.
"I have an incredible opportunity with Billy Ballew Motorsports this season," said Bill Lester. "The teams I have driven for in the past were multi-truck teams so the focus was a bit different. This No. 15 team with Richie Wauters at the helm has the reputation for building trucks capable of being upfront every week. I plan on doing my part to try to maintain that. The chemistry with Richie is already there; it's as if we've worked together for years. He is one of the most, if not the most, knowledgeable crew chief that I've worked with. With that being said, I see good things happening for us in the upcoming NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season."
Lester and Ballew bring together a wealth of success and experience specific to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. While victory lane has remained elusive to Lester, Ballew and his team have earned five wins in the series. Lester has made 127 starts in the Craftsman Truck Series and earned three poles, two top-five finishes along with six top-ten finishes. Billy Ballew Motorsports has made 156 starts in the series and in addition to the five wins (Kyle Busch 4, Shane Hmiel 1) the team has earned two poles (Kerry Earnhardt, Daytona 2005, Kyle Busch, Lowe's 2005).
"It is great to have such a combination of experience between our team and Bill (Lester)," said Billy Ballew, team owner. "With Bill Lester behind the wheel, we believe we have the opportunity to do that again this season and get Bill his first career NCTS win. He is a dedicated racer and has untapped talent that he is already showing after just testing with the team last week. Bill is a racers' racer and so is this team and we are all excited to see what transpires as we head to Daytona."
Lester has one more trip to Daytona before he takes to the track in the No. 15 Craftsman Truck in early February; he will be participating in the Rolex 24 next week with team RVO Motorsports.
