Mike Skinner Wins American Commercial Lines 200 Craftsman Truck Race at Atlanta Motor Speedway
HAMPTON, Ga. (March 16, 2007) -- Mike Skinner captured the checkered flag for the second-straight week after holding off a hard-charging Todd Bodine in the closing laps of Friday night's race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
"We had to beat Clint Bowyer who is a trick artist," said Skinner. "We didn't even have the best truck all night. The No. 30 truck was the best truck. Two weeks in-a-row, we have won with a second-place truck, but we have lost a lot of these with a first-place truck though."
AMS hasn't been too kind to Skinner in the past, only netting him two top-10 and one top-five finish in his career, but all that changed after Skinner tailgated front-running Bowyer, eventually moving him to capture the top spot.
Todd Bodine followed in Skinner's tire tracks, passing Bowyer to claim the runner-up spot and in the process sending Bowyer to a fifth-place finish. Matt Crafton finished third and Rick Crawford, making his 250th-career start finished the American Commercial Lines 200 in fifth.
Billy Clanton was the top finishing Georgia driver, finishing 10th after qualifying 18th.
"I thought we would get a top-20 finish," said Clanton. "But we caught the breaks we needed to get us where we needed to be when there were 20-laps to go."
Georgia resident Bill Lester's race didn't go as he had wished after mid-race crash and two other incidents sent him to a 30th-place finish.
"These guys busted their humps to get us back out there to get a finish all night," Lester said. "We went back out and broke a tie-rod and that sent me in the Turn 4 wall again. That ended my night."
Canton, Ga.'s Chase Miller had a disappointing night as well due to an expired engine. Miller finished 34th.
Tomorrow's Nicorette 300 NASCAR Busch Series event starts at 3 p.m.
