CARL EDWARDS -99-Superchips Ford F-150 (Qualified 3rd)
DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU HAD A SHOT AT THE POLE? "It was possible. It was close enough to be really, really frustrated. It's one of those things where if you're fifth or sixth, you're happy to be in the top 10, but if you're third, it's terrible because you were so close. The other side of that is, we're the highest thing other than a Toyota in the top four, and it's always nice to break up a stranglehold. That's awesome and considering that we haven't tested at an intermediate track like this and I think it says a lot about Kevin Starland (crew chief) and the guys on my team and their preparation."
IT DOESN'T SEEM A LOT HAS CARRIED OVER FROM DAYTONA? "This is kind of a cross between Daytona and a place like Kansas or Kentucky where you need the low drag, but you still need enough downforce that you don't have to lift in the corners. This is a very technical track in my eyes."
WHAT KIND OF RACING DO YOU EXPECT TOMORROW? "During the race, they're going to slow down two seconds from qualifying. I think it's going to be an awesome race. It's going to be one of those races where the draft will play a part down the straightaway and everybody is going into the corner and it's going to be a chassis race in the middle of the corner."
YOU HAVE TESTED HERE BEFORE. "Yeah, I got to test a Busch car here, which was awesome. But, yeah, our Superchips Ford ran really well. This is an awesome race track and it's great to have the Craftsman Trucks here. Congratulations to the top two qualifiers, it was a good job. I have to use this opportunity to point out a couple of things. Toyota is a new manufacturer and this is their first race on a regular-type race track with seven new teams and they occupy four out of the top five spots, and to me that's a little hard to take. But, I'm sure, though, that NASCAR is looking at it, and I look forward to us going to the wind tunnel or the chassis dyno or whatever. I've just got say - and Travis (Kvapil) was my pick for the pole, but for some reason he slowed down four tenths and didn't get it - but we're just glad to be here and I hope we race a little it better as a group against these Toyotas. I've got to say it. If there were four Fords in the top five, you'd have to say something."
"It's very fast, so for our truck it's kind of a fine line, if you're a little too loose it's petrifying, but you have to be just loose enough o keep it on the line."
WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST NASCAR DO TO THE TOYOTA TRUCKS? "Like they've always done, just make sure that everybody is in the same neighborhood as far as horsepower and drag, and things like that. It's awesome that we have a new manufacturer in the series, it's just that these are the kind of things that we don't want to make it too hard on us because as the year goes on they're going to get better. Like he (Huffman) said, it's his 15th lap here, and so that is scary to us guys that aren't driving Toyotas."
