Highly Motivated For A Win.
There is nothing quite as motivating as hunger, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver David Starr and the Spears Motorsports team are definitely hungry for a win. "We struggled somewhat part of last season," says Starr, who was also injured during a test session and had to sit out four races. "This year it's going to be a different story. We're ready to go."
Looking to satisfy their hunger, Spears Motorsports is ready for Atlanta Motor Speedway and the inaugural EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts 200, Saturday, March 13th.
"This will be a brand new venue for the Craftsman Truck Series," says Starr. And, that always makes it exciting. I've never raced at Atlanta, but from everything I've heard and studied, it is going to be an awesome event. The 1.52-mil quad oval is definitely fast and similar to my home track, Texas Motor Speedway. It is the type of course that suits my style of driving and I think we can do well. We tested a few weeks ago at Charlotte and our No. 75 Spears Manufacturing Chevy Silverado was right on. The crew has done their homework and this race should provide us with a good opportunity to move up in the points."
One of the hardest charging drivers on the circuit, Starr tends to excel under new challenges and running on a track for the first time is always a new challenge. "The majority of us will all be in the same boat when we get to Atlanta," he continues with a knowing smile. "We will all be learning the track together and that means we are all kind of on equal footing which is always a bonus. Luckily for me I'm a pretty quick learner and that tends to help when you don't have a lot of track time prior to qualifying. We get a two hour and fifteen minute practice session on Friday morning and then we qualify so you have to get it right early on."
One of the most exciting and popular series in America today, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is intense competition from start to finish. "The caliber of competition this season is really incredible," sums up Starr. At any given event, there are at least a dozen or so drivers who can easily take the victory. This year, however, we feel we have an extra edge with the backing of Chevrolet. In the history of the series, they have earned the most victories and both the most Manufacturers' and Drivers' Championships and that says a lot. Their input is a tremendous help and we feel that things will definitely get better and better as the season progresses."
