NASCAR confirms Chase format for Xfinity and Truck Series, reveals details
Earlier today, Motorsport.com learned that NASCAR would be introducing a Chase-style format in the lower two divisions of the national level.
NASCAR has decided to expand its elimination-style Chase format into the Camping World Truck (NCWTS) and Xfinity Series (NXS). The news was announced at the opening of Media Tour during Brian France's State of the Sport address.
NXS Chase
- 12 drivers
- 7 races with three rounds, cutting field down to 8 competitors and then a final four
- Winning a race guarantees spot in the Chase
- Two Dash 4 Cash wins are equivalent to a race win in regards to Chase eligibility
- 2015 Chase for Sprint Cup drivers are ineligible to compete in season finale at Homestead
- The Dash 4 Cash races will also play a part in who makes the Chase (DETAILS HERE)
Chicagoland Speedway will serve as the final race of the regular season. Round 1 tracks will be Kentucky, Dover and Charlotte. Round 2 tracks will be Kansas, Texas and Phoenix.
NCWTS Chase
- 8 drivers
- 7 races with three rounds, cutting field down to 6 drivers and then a final four
- Winning a race guarantees spot in the Chase
- 2015 Chase for Sprint Cup drivers are ineligible to compete in season finale at Homestead
Chicagoland Speedway will serve as the final race of the regular season. Round 1 tracks will be Loudon, Las Vegas and Talladega. Round 2 tracks will be Martinsville, Texas and Phoenix.
During each Chase round, if a driver wins a race, they will automatically advance to the next round. The remaining spots will be decided by points.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chase format remains unchanged for 2016.
