NASCAR driver and owner of RFK Racing Brad Keselowski has delivered his verdict on the chaotic Xfinity Series racing at Martinsville over the weekend. The driver claims that the solution lies with the car owners rather than NASCAR itself.
The racing had been messy throughout the whole race, with questionable moves coming from the likes of Austin Hill and Connor Zilisch, as well as 14 cautions and one red flag. This was topped off by Sammy Smith taking Taylor Gray out at Turn 3 during overtime, causing a multi-car crash.
The racing has drawn a large amount of criticism from many within the industry, and now Keselowski has shared his thoughts to social media, writing:
"I’ve been really quiet on this over the last few days but it’s clear this is important to fix and also clear that it’s bigger than 1 race weekend.
"My 2 cents- The solution needs to come from the car owners not NASCAR. Until the car owners are willing to park their drivers for getting this out of control, very little will change.
"I get that they are all scared to park a funded driver out of fear they will lose the money to continue to operations. However, at some point, that’s the risk you have to take to get this right. I believe if all of the teams do it together, it would work."
Smith and Gray got into a heated exchange after the race. Speaking about the clash, Smith explained:
"He says he wants to go at it, and we can go at it if he wants. But at the end of the day, it’s probably going to be a lot more going forward, and that’s okay with me."
Gray also commented:
"It doesn’t really matter, it kinda stays between us, that’s why we had it without media around there.
"It wasn’t a very good conversation; it didn’t really go anywhere. They never do. I just wanted to make sure that he knew I was frustrated and was not happy with him being dumped."
