NASCAR Next driver Alon Day will be a very busy man if he has his way in 2017.
Day, who was born in Ashdod, Israel and now resides in Tel Aviv, returns to the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series to compete in the Elite 1 division championship.
Day finished second and third, respectively, in his two seasons of competition in the only NASCAR-sanctioned race series in Europe. He has already scored six wins in just 24 starts.
Day will once again drive for CAAL Racing in Europe. He’ll also attempt to start as many races as possible in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series as his schedule and sponsorship will allow in 2017.
Day made a pair of starts in both series last year with a top finish of 13th at Mid-Ohio in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race after running in the top-10 for most of the event.
“I am really happy to be back and race again in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and to do it with CAAL Racing, the team I had so much success with,” said Day. “You don't want to change a winning team,” said Day, who finished third in points in 2016.”
In addition to his three wins each year in 2015 and 2016, Day also collected four pole awards, 12 top-five and 18 top-10 finishes.
Going after the championship
Returning to a team, series and tracks he’s familiar with should only help Day in his quest for his first NASCAR championship.
“I know most of the tracks and I know I have a good car and a team around me capable of winning, which gives me a lot of confidence to fight even harder,” said Day. “I have one goal for this year, and it is to win the championship for me and for CAAL Racing.
“Besides that I also hope to add as many races as possible this year in the USA. We are still looking for sponsors and we will keep working hard on the program.”
Alon Day will team up with NWES veteran Freddy Nordstrom in the ELITE 1 Division at CAAL Racing, while Arianna Casoli, Gil Linster and Felipe Rabello will drive the Italian cars in ELITE 2 in what will be a truly international lineup.
“It is fantastic to have Alon back with us for the third consecutive year and to resign drivers like Freddy and Arianna,” said CAAL Racing Team Manager Luca Canneori. “It proves that we are doing a good job and we have everything to compete at the highest level.”
Day kicks off the season with his CAAL Racing teammates at the Autodromo di Franciacorta on March 3 for the official NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Prologue (Test session) to 2017.
