STUART, Va. (August 9, 2000) -- According to Wood Brothers team co-owner Eddie Wood, the road course at Watkins Glen presents different challenges than Sears Point -- despite their similarity in grouping. His driver, Elliott Sadler, has shown signs of greatness this season but has been forced to battle with more than his share of adversity. The team's goal is to overcome their misfortunes and Watkins Glen is their next shot at success.
According to Wood, "Elliott runs well at Watkins Glen and he likes it much better than Sears Point. The track is a lot faster and there are more places to pass. Drivers usually respect one another more at Watkins Glen because of the higher speeds so the fans can expect some good, clean racing"
Sadler's first road course outing of the season resulted in an injured racecar. After Sadler's CITGO Ford spent time behind pit wall for repairs during the race, he returned to the track with lap times equivalent of running inside the top-10. Since Sears Point, the car has been completely rebuilt and Wood is optimistic the results from Watkins Glen will be more consistent with their expectations.
"We know the car is capable of running well and we're expecting much better results this weekend. We've had our ups and downs so far this season. Most of the things that happened were beyond our control. We lost a lot of good racecars early in the year so we've been playing catch up over the past couple of months. Our inventory is almost back to normal and that will allow Elliott to be more aggressive on the racetrack."
