Wednesday Stats Day will be coming late this afternoon.
Hut Stricklin feels ignored by Ford
Richard Broome had some comments about Ford after there perfromance at Pocono. ''Ford Motor Company's motorsport program stinks, and you can put my name on that,'' Broome said. ''If your name isn't Robert Yates, Jack Roush or Roger Penske, they don't care about you. Those are Ford's three pet deals. And the rest of us . . . the hell with 'em." ''Ford doesn't care what happens to the independents. All we're doing is helping Ford's parts business." ''I've made four phone calls to Detroit trying to find someone to explain to me what happened wrong at Charlotte, and I can't even find someone with the courtesy to return my calls. They're getting ready to lose this team." ''The last wind tunnel data I got from Ford was in February 1996,'' Broome said. ''I've not even had a call from anybody at Ford about where to locate sheet metal or nothing. And look at what all NASCAR has changed on these cars, all those templates changes. But I haven't seen any of those numbers (from Ford's wind tunnel tests of the various changes). ''I don't even know one guy at Ford Motor Company that I can pick the phone up and call.'' Hut Stricklin is trying to be patient. ''It's been a frustrating season, it really has,'' Stricklin said. ''We've probably had two or three races that have been really bad, where we ran really bad. But the rest of 'em we've been a top five or top 10 car. And we've actually been running in the top five or top 10 when something broke or fell off or something." ''I don't know which is worse, to go out there running bad all the time or running good and then have something happen.'' Broome, who took over the team during the offseason, feels the heat. ''It's been a rough season, but where we're at in points certainly isn't a reflection of our performance,'' Broome said. ''If we could have just finished some of the races without some of the problems we've had, we should be at least top-15. Right now we're so far back in points that we can't afford to have a bad qualifying run or we'll probably have to load our stuff up and go home. We can't even afford to miss a gear." ''I've seen some improvements in the team since the first of the year. I think we have all the tools to do the job; we just have to get it accomplished. I feel like I've got as good a driver as there is out there, and as good a car owner . . . but all the things in between kinda put us in a deficit." ''But Hut is, to me, the most understanding, and down-to-earth driver that there is out there. He knows we're trying.
Bruton Smith and ARCA Update
According to sources in the garage area, ARCA officials have told Smith they will sell if he can get NASCAR approval, which is unlikely. If Smith should purchase the ARCA Series, it would give him his own race officials should he decide to start a rival series. It would also give him the capacity to run a non-sanctioned race with Winston Cup drivers at his Texas track later this year. Smith has been asking Bill France for a second Texas date this season, but France refuses to budge. According to sources, Smith has threatened to run a second race at Texas the week most Winston Cup teams are in Japan for the second Suzuka Thunder 100. Bill France Looks at Miami track to Operate
Rumors are that Bill France is looking at a Miami track. If this deal goes through it could spell the removal of a Darlington date and the addition of a Miami date.
Robert Yates team addition
Jeff Clark, who left the Penske motor room last month, had planned to return to the Robert Yates team, but Penske is enforcing his contract with Clark, keeping Clark from rejoining Yates(6-10-97)

Geoff Bodine should be making an announcement in a week or two. No details because it isn't final, but I hear it will make the team stronger in all areas including "marketing".
