Three-team owner Jack Roush said, ``I'm not nearly as interested in winning a single championship in any year as I am in putting things in place to be perennially competitive for championships. If we don't have three cars in the top 10 in points for every year in the future, I'm going to believe that we're not doing our jobs; I'll believe that I'm not doing my job.'' Mark Martin is 2nd in points, Jeff Burton is 5th, and Ted Musgrave is 11th and on an upward swing as of today.

Terry Cook got his best Craftsman Truck Series finish of the season last weekend at Nazareth, Pa., claiming 15th in a Chevy truck sponsored by the Professional Bowlers Association. Cook picked a good time to show his best since one of his ``bosses'' was in the crowd - Hall of Fame bowler Johnny Petraglia.

Jayski reports that one of his readers, Rich from NH told him, "For the Louden WC race at NHIS, all traffic coming from the south on Rt. 106 will be required to use the new entrance, unless they are employees or have a valid handicap sticker. There will be a new 1.6 mile access road which is 5 lanes wide that goes on the perimeter of the parking areas! If coming from the north on Rt.106 it will be the same as in the past entering the north gate, but all RV's will be required to use the new south entrance." Hope this helps those of you bound for that race.

This past weekend at Watkins Glen was a good one for Todd Bodine. He finished second in the race and took over the lead in the NASCAR Busch Series points standings. But he's probably more excited that he's heading back to the Winston Cup Series next year. "I can tell you that I'm going to be in Winston Cup," Bodine said. "We have a deal that's almost signed, almost done. We're just waiting for the formalities. I'm very excited about it. It's a good situation, a good opportunity. It's probably the best opportunity I've ever had in racing."

The 1997 Daytona 500 Champion Jeff Gordon and his Hendrick Motorsports team completed their two-day test session at Daytona on June 25. Shaking down their newly-prepared superspeedway car, Gordon turned in a fast lap Wednesday of 47.60 seconds, an average speed of 189.076 mph. "The car feels pretty good," said Gordon, who sat on the pole for the Pepsi 400 one year ago with a speed of 188.869 mph. "We're really not looking for speed right now. We're just trying to shake down the qualifying motor and a new race car. That's really the whole point of any test session, trying to work all the bugs out."
