PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PEPSI 400 IS ON "SATURDAY, JULY 5", NOT "SUNDAY JULY 5", as reported in the Wednesday stats posting. My sincere apologies for the typo error. Thanks to Michael Smith for calling this to my attention.

Lawyers Agree to Delay Trial for Hendrick

I read where federal prosecutors said they will not oppose a delay in Rick Hendrick's trial on charges of bribery with his Honda dealership. They do oppose a change of location for the trial from Asheville to Charlotte.

4th Roush Team?

JournalNow reports that Jack Roush said a 4th team is a good possibility under the right circumstances. He wouldn't confirm his interest in Kenny Irwin Jr. (no, not kin to me), but he said that "a Kenny Irwin would be a good profile" of what he would be looking for in a driver.

Bye, Scoob! (thanks, Jim, for the info)

I have it from a semi-reliable source that Scooby-Doo is off the hood of >the Diamond Ridge #29 car driven by Jeff Green. The Cartoon Network will >unveil a new paint cheme at Daytona with Tom & Jerry on the car; T&J will be there the rest of the season. I'm pretty sure this has already been reported, but just in case........

Loy Allen Quote

"I appreciate the opportunity to drive the car and look forward to racing at Daytona with the Spam team. I am very excited after talking with (car owner) Joe Falk and (crew chief) Todd Myers about being a part of this young Winston Cup team. I realize this is just a one-race deal but I feel very fortunate to get back behind the wheel. I like running at Daytona and have done a lot of testing for various top-10 Winston Cup teams for restrictor plate development. Hopefully, the team and I will be able to draw knowledge from each other to complete a great run. " Loy recently signed a one race deal for the Pepsi 400.

New Crew Chief for Busch Team

John Monsam has replaced Butch Enders as crew chief for driver Glenn Allen in the No. 99 Luxaire/J&J Racing Chevrolets on the NASCAR Busch Series, beginning with this weekend's Sears Auto Center 250 at The Milwaukee Mile.

Mike Wallace Gets Truck Ride

Ken Schrader Racing announced that Mike Wallace will pilot the team's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series entry beginning with Saturday's Sears DieHard 200 at The Milwaukee Mile. Wallace won the 1994 Daytona ARCA 200 while driving for Ken Schrader Racing. While his Winston Cup team had last weekend off, Schrader went to Toledo, Ohio, and won an Automobile Racing Club of America event. Schrader led 96 of the 154 laps and was the only driver on the lead lap when the checkered flag flew. Blaise Alexander was second.

Schrader's Declaration of Independence for the Pepsi 400

Ken Schrader and his team members have signed a document that mimics the Declaration of Independence, this one intending to ``dissolve the band of bad luck on the track which has plagued them during the 1997 season.'' ``We hold these truths to be self-evident,'' it declares, ``that all racers are not created equal, but (this) team is endowed with certain unalienable traits, that among these are desire, talent and determination, which will be used in our constant pursuit of victory.''

Jeff Burton's Break

Jeff Burton walked around for two weeks on a broken left leg before he had a doctor check the limb by doing an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), to make sure no ligaments were torn. Burton injured the leg while practicing for the Miller 400 in June. Crew Chief Buddy Parrott says his driver should be 100% for the upcoming Pepsi 400 at Daytona, noting that the brakes aren't used too much at Daytona.

Great Article about Robert Yates and Ernie Irvan

Read the article here: http://www.nascar.com/news/97news/00292550.html (It will probably only be there for a few days). Great interview with Robert Yates concerning Ernie Irvan and negotiations. Apparently Yates and Irvan have not signed anything yet for 1998!

Jeff Fuller is getting the BGN ride formally occupied by Greg Sacks....the Hunters Specialty car (Mike Laughlin #45). According to my source, they made it sound like a permanent deal with Fuller in this car, but Jayski is saying it just may be for Milwaukee & Myrtle Beach.

Jayski says Lake Speed will be at Daytona this week with Pierry Manufacturing as sponsor again. Pierry is the sponsor who contacted Lake while he was in a recent chat on NASCAR Online. This online stuff works!

The Richmond Times-Dispatch also reports that Kenny Irwin Jr turned down a ride with the IRL team Menard, in favor of a possible future WC ride. Thanks again to Jayski.

Jayski also reports that he heard from an excellent source that Alan Bestwick will not be broadcasting the Daytona 500 in 1998 and will not taking over for Ken Squier.

Jayski reports that folks testing the Ford Taurus feel the rear deck is not a problem and with the car at racing attitude should work just fine with even minor concessions from NASCAR. He also heard that Ford and/or NASCAR will announce the Taurus as the replacement for the T-Bird this weekend at the Pepsi 400 and that the Ford teams expect that sheet metal will be be available in August.

Andy Houston, 26, the youngest of the sons in the Houston racing family, has been named to drive five races on the NASCAR truck series in a truck owned by Mike Addington, from Ashland, Kentucky (my home town!). Houston's dad, former short-track driver Tommy Houston, will be the team manager. The team's first race will be July 31 at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
