WATKINS GLEN, NY, (August 15, 2004) --- Sterling Marlin and the Coors Light crew spent 34 laps behind the wall after being turned around by Greg Biffle to finish 36th in the Sirius at the Glen at Watkins Glen International.
"We were doing okay out there today," Marlin said. "Then Biffle drove in there like an idiot and turned us around. It hurt the lower control arm and mounts and steering box and it sheered off some stuff. I was helping the guys work on it to try and get the car back out...I didn't have anything else to do."
After qualifying was canceled on Friday due to inclement weather, the field was lined up by points with Marlin occupying the 19th starting spot. Marlin had dropped back three spots by lap six when the first caution of the day came out. When the race restarted on lap eight Marlin was up to 20th.
The Coors Light Dodge was running in the 22nd position on lap 16 when Biffle ran into the back of the No. 40 and spun the car around. After hitting the wall of tires, Marlin made a quick visit to the Infield Care Center before being released and returning to help the guys fix the damaged Coors Light Dodge.
The Silver Bullet returned to the track on lap 50 and spent the next 35 laps gaining four positions before parking the car on lap 85.
Marlin's 36th-place finish dropped him to 20th in the NEXTEL Cup championship points, 378 points out of the top 10. Ganassi teammates Casey Mears and Jamie McMurray finished fourth and 13th respectively.
The Coors Light team races at Michigan International Speedway next weekend. The race will be broadcast live on TNT and MRN radio on Sunday August 22nd.
