WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (Aug. 15, 2004) - As he prepared for his second career stock car road race, Scott Riggs had one goal in mind Sunday at Watkins Glen International -- to stay on the asphalt and finish the race. When he brought the Valvoline Chevrolet across the finish line 23rd in the SIRIUS at The Glen, both of those goals were accomplished.

"We had a different game plan today," said Riggs, who finished 42nd at the previous road race in Sonoma, Calif. "After our performance at Sonoma I really wanted to get out there today, learn as much as I could, and stay on the racetrack. We knew if we could do that, we'd come home with a better finish and that's exactly what happened."

"The Valvoline team is never satisfied with a 23rd-place finish," commented Riggs. "But after my first road race, this was a pretty good day. If nothing else, it gave us a new mindset on road courses and another reason to hold our heads high."

"Everyone on this team did a great job," Riggs continued. "We hung in, never lost confidence and learned a lot. We knew if we could just stay on the blacktop and let other people make mistakes ahead of us we could come away with a decent finish and learn some valuable lessons in the process. We did what we came here to do and that's encouraging."

The next stop for the Nextel Cup Series will be Sunday (Aug. 22) at Michigan International Speedway.
