RIGGS FINISHES 31ST AT WATKINS GLEN

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (Aug. 14, 2005)-- Scott Riggs collected a 31st-place finish in Sunday's Nextel Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International.

"I sure am glad road racing is over for the year," offered the Valvoline driver. "We struggled all day."

Riggs started the 90-lap Sirius Satellite Radio at the Glen from the 31st position after rain storms forced NEXTEL Cup officials to cancel qualifying and set the field for the race according to owner points. Friday's afternoon practice session was also cancelled.

"The rain taking some of our practice time away put us even further behind the eight ball," explained Riggs. "I think I got better and better during the race as far as getting around the track goes. But the car was little tight and we just never got everything to click."

"I think we had a better road-course car than we did road-course driver," Riggs joked. "The Valvoline team worked hard this weekend for sure. I'm ready to go to Michigan next week and getting back to some good old-fashioned oval racing."

The Nextel Cup Series will compete at Michigan International Speedway next Sunday, Aug. 21.
