82. SCOTT SPEED (START 8, FINISH 43) / 83. BORIS SAID (START 13, FINISH 38)
DISASTER AHEAD: TURN RIGHT Let's go for a lap around our Heluva Bad! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen:
UP NEXT Carfax 400, Sunday, Aug. 15, Michigan International Speedway
TURN 1: Both of the Red Bull Toyotas - Scott Speed in eighth and Boris Said in 13th - entered the first corner on the first lap with track position already in hand. At a track where track position is, well, paramount. They held it, too, in the early going.
TURN 2: Down goes Boris on lap 66. Said's No. 83 Red Bull Toyota owned the real estate on Tony Stewart, but it sounded like Stewart thought he was being evicted from turn two. Said went spinning - the No. 83's rear end hitting hard in the powder-blue guardrail - and later added, "This Red Bull team is great. They gave me wings. I just didn't think I'd be flying around in circles."
TURN 9: The Carousel. Sweeping righty that takes you nearly 180 degrees the other way.
TURN 3: A high-speed left-hander in the esses. JPM had everybody covered through here - and pretty much everywhere else.
TURN 4: Launching pad for the back straight. Takes only a few seconds to catch the bus to a local winery.
TURNS 5-8: Many say the Glen's only seven turns long. Tend to disagree on this one. It's really 11 turns. The so-called inner loop (or bus stop) is a quick series of four turns - right, left, left, then right. Maybe it is just a chicane, but it's too much of a dust-raising factor not to be counted.
TURN 10: Is Bo Bice even relevant? He lost American Idol's Season 4 title to Carrie Underwood, like, five years ago.
TURN 11: Just before halfway, Scott Speed made his final turn in the No. 82 Red Bull Toyota. Early in the race, he had been running eighth - that was until he went to the garage with engine issues on lap 12. He came back out, but retired for good after completing only 28 laps.
