Watkins Glen, N.Y. - Three-time and defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe's Impala SS, added another stat to his impressive record by scoring his career-first pole for a road course race at Watkins Glen International.

Johnson, who has three wins this season, put down a blistering qualifying lap of 123.633 mph in 71.34 seconds, and is one of the favorites in Sunday's Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen. "We did all the right things today," said Johnson. "We'll have a great view from up front."

Team Chevy drivers claimed four of the top-12 starting positions for tomorrow's 90-lap/220.5-mile road course race. Ryan Newman, No. 39 U.S. Army Impala SS will start sixth, Juan Pablo Montoya, No. 42 Target Impala SS will start 10th, and Casey Mears, No. 07 Jack Daniels Impala will start 11th.

A total of 15 Chevy Impala SS drivers will start tomorrow's race scheduled to take the green flag at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
