Carl Edwards on racing at Watkins Glen International:
"I had three goals for this season and they were to win the championship, win at Martinsville and win a road course race. We have been getting better on the road courses and I feel when we tackle Watkins Glen and its 11 turns and banking we will be one of the cars to beat. It's always challenging, but I really like it a lot. I'm looking forward to it and I plan on coming out of there with a very solid finish, hopefully a win."
Crew Chief Bob Osborne on racing at Watkins Glen International:
"Pit strategy plays a huge role at the road courses, so we've been preparing for many different scenarios. Last year we elected to pit early so Carl could keep his track position late in the race. It's very important to get through the corners as fast as possible while also keeping the car on track. One of the biggest mistakes a driver can make at a road course is getting off track because even if the car isn't damaged you lose so much time."
*Edwards enters Watkins Glen sixth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings, 523 markers behind point leader Tony Stewart. Edwards was ranked third in the standings last year heading into the Glen, 185 points behind then leader, Kyle Busch.
*FOR THE RECORD...Edwards will make his fifth Cup start at Watkins Glen this weekend. In his previous four starts, Edwards has accumulated one top-five and three top-ten finishes. He has an average start and finish of 10th there.
*LAPS...Edwards has completed 362 of 362, or 100% of the laps he has attempted in Cup competition at The Glen. It's one of only two tracks where Edwards has never led a lap in Sprint Cup competition. Martinsville is the other track
*ON THE TRACK...The Aflac team will be bringing chassis RK-656 to Watkins Glen this weekend. Edwards raced this chassis at Sonoma in June where he finished 13th.
*REWIND, THE GLEN, August 2008...In August of 2008 at The Glen, a gamble on pit strategy helped propel Edwards to a solid finish. He finished ninth after crew chief Bob Osborne elected to pit early, bringing the No. 99 Ford to the checkered flag with little fuel to spare.
