Allmendinger Takes Fourth on Watkins Glen Grid

Watkins Glen, NY, 7 August 2010-- Following up on Fridays huge announcement that AJ Allmendinger has signed a multi-year contract to race the No. 43 for Richard Petty Motorsports, Allmendinger went back to work on Saturday at Watkins Glen and scored his second-best qualifying spot of the season as he took fourth on the grid for Sunday's Heluva Good! Sour CreamDips at The Glen in the Insignia/Best Buy Ford Fusion. The California racer scored pole position at Phoenix International Raceway earlier this year.

AJ's time of 71.348 seconds was good for an average speed of 123.619 mph around the legendary natural terrrain road course in upstate New York. Rained out of the chance to race at the track in 2007, AJ finished 11th in 2008 and 13th in 2009 and will target an even stronger run on Sunday as he looks to keep the positive momentum going.

"It was a good lap--I was more nervous about making a mistake that would ruin the lap than I was about getting a good time in!" joked the Insignia/Best Buy racer after his run. "I think I got everything out of the car that I could and we should be in good shape tomorrow, I'm pretty happy with the lap. Track position is so key here. Congratulations to Carl (Edwards) on his pole--it's great to see the Fords up front and hopefully we can keep that up tomorrow."
