Carson Hocevar explains himself after spinning out on wet pace lap

NASCAR's race in New Hampshire on Sunday was set to start an hour before its originally scheduled start time of 3 p.m. ET, right up until the moment it wasn't.

The start of the race had been moved up in an effort to mitigate the effects that some rough weather could have on the race. Unfortunately for NASCAR, that rough weather decided to move up an hour as well, leaving the track extremely wet as the field circled the track for the pace lap, all on wet-weather tires.

As the drivers paraded around the wet road getting a rough feel for how their cars might perform in the tough conditions, Carson Hocevar pulled a maneuver that made it clear that the start of the race would likely get delayed.

It is simply never a good look to spin out during the pace lap.

So yeah, it is extremely slippery out there today.

Joey Logano, who had a front-row seat to Hocevar's spin, couldn't help but laugh at the scene as the Spire driver gassed up around the pace car before losing control.

"Look at this guy. Look at this idiot," Logano said of Hocevar as he lost his car.

Logano's comments came after he and his team confirmed they were "Team thumbs down," regarding whether or not the race could get underway. Apparently, Hocevar was on "Team thumbs up," adding a bit more comedy to his spill.

After the spin, Hocevar immediately went to defend himself on social media, writing in a post that actually he was simply doing his duty as a driver.

"I much rather test the track when no one’s around vs green flag and ppl around," wrote in a post that was deleted shortly after he sent it out. "If no one else was gonna test it, I’ll do it lol."

There's some logic to Hocevar's call. It is indeed better to realize the track is too wet before the race goes green, but there is also no denying that it is extremely funny to see a car go sailing out of control during what is supposed to be the most controlled lap of the entire day.

Given what happened to Hocevar, there's a chance there are plenty more spins soon to come in New Hampshire.
