Burton Looks For Another Solid Road Course Run

"We got our rule change and that really seemed to help us have more stability through the turns. It really showed at Indy last week because we were able to go a lot deeper into the turns and that allowed us to have better speeds coming off the turns, so it really helped our performance. I think it can help us at the Glen too, but we'll have to wait until Michigan to see how it's really going to affect us."

BURTON ON WATKINS GLEN:

"Qualifying is so critical at Watkins Glen or any other track it seems because track position is so important. The competition has really stepped up and it is just difficult to pass, so we'll really concentrate on qualifying right off. It's a little easier to pass at Watkins Glen then at Sears Point because it's a little bit wider. We had a great run at Sears Point this year and that will certainly help us this weekend."

BURTON ON THE TEAM'S PERFORMANCE AT THE BRICKYARD 400:

"It was a great run for the Caterpillar team. We ran good all weekend and probably would have qualified a lot better if we were one of the first cars to go out (to qualify), but that's just the luck of the draw. We made the best of it and were one of the fastest cars for as late as we went. We lost a lot of practice during "Happy Hour" because we broke a transmission, so we weren't real sure how things were going to shape up for the race. But I knew as soon as we got racing, that the CAT car was dialed in. We passed a lot of cars at a track that's known for being difficult to pass on. I thought we had a shot at the win, but we'll settle for a good run and something to build on for when we get to Michigan next week."

TEAM NEWS:

· Ward Burton and his family spent this week at the beach catching up on some family time before the children return to school.

· Bill Davis joined some of his motorcycle friends and headed to Sturgis for a couple of days and then he will travel to Watkins Glen at week's end. From Watkins Glen, Bill, Gail and some racing friends will then head to Michigan on their motorcycles.

CHASSIS NOTES:

· The Caterpillar Racing team returns to road course action with the same car they had raced at Sears Point Raceway. At Sears Point Raceway, Burton had a strong qualifying effort where he started fifth and backed it up with a solid sixth-place finish, his best ever road course finish. <pre> Year Event ST FIN Earnings 2000 Global Crossing @ The Glen 7 22 44,525 1999 Frontier at the Glen 15 43 28,825 1998 Bud at the Glen 25 21 29,430 1997 Bud at the Glen 18 41 18,365 1996 Bud at the Glen 21 32 24,490 1995 Bud at the Glen 40 19 14,125 1994 Bud at the Glen 30 24 6,880
