David Blair Motorsports makes 1997 debut.

David Blair announced that veteran NASCAR driver Rick Wilson will drive the #27 unsponsored Thunderbird with Pete Peterson handling the crew chief duties. Rick Wilson has competed in more than 200 NASCAR Winston Cup races with his best finish - 2nd - coming in the 1988 Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway. Pete Peterson last worked with three-time Winston Cup champion Darrell Waltrip. We're excited to be back racing again," said Blair. "We're excited to have a driver with the experience and talent of Rick Wilson. And we're excited to have a highly skillful crew chief with Pete Peterson.

Rusty Wallace is the Early Texas Favorite

With very little to go on in determining a favorite, all eyes focus on the times that Rusty Wallace established in the test sessions at Texas earlier in the year. Wallace got his No. 2 Miller Lite Ford Thunderbird around the track at 184.30 mph the first day and 185.76 the second day. He was the quickest each day. Wallace already a good qualifier is an early favorite for the Busch Pole as well.
