Tuesday News and Rumors

Parks and Pennzoil in 1998

Steve Parks has been rumored to be driving the 14 (Earnhardt Sponsored) in 1998 with Pennzoil as the Sponsor. Originally Pennzoil was supposed to go with Darrell Waltrip (rumored). No word on what Waltrip will now have.

Bodine in the CAT Car at Darlington

Todd Bodine will fill in for David Green who suffered a fractured scapula (shoulder blade) in the Bristol race Saturday. Early reports have him returning by Richmond. He (Green) is currently receiving treatment at the Carolina Panthers training facility.

Cope out. Ernie in?

Derrick Cope was released as the driver of the Skittles Pontiac. Rumors are pretty firm as of Tuesday night that the car will be driven by Ernie Irvan. The progression of Ernie's search for a driver went something like this. Insiders report that Ernie had faxed and returned (in a handshake deal) a contract with Travis Carter in the Camel 23 car. During this time he shopped with Andy Petree as a second team for the 33 car. Apparently (Insiders say) a potential sponsor on the 23 car came knocking on Ernie's door after several phone calls weren't returned. Needless to say now that Irvan and Petree and Travis Carter aren't the best of friends.
