Truex tops opening Sprint Cup practice at Texas

On-track action is underway for the seventh round of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season.

At Texas Motor Speedway, a Chevrolet quartet led the way to kick off the weekend. The single-car operation of Martin Truex Jr. and Furniture Row Racing topped the time sheets at 191.096mph (28.258 seconds).

Six different teams were represented in the top six with Hendrick Motorsports' Kasey Kahne a full tenth off MTJ in second, followed by SHR's Kevin Harvick, Germain's Casey Mears, and JGR's David Ragan.

The remainder of the top ten was filled by Jamie McMurray, Carl Edwards, Austin Dillon, Kurt Busch, and Brad Keselowski.

The session went incident-free and all 45 entries posted a time with 1.887 seconds separating the quickest time set by Truex and slowest, put down by Alex Kennedy and Circle Sport.

Final practice and qualifying will take place later today with this being a Saturday night race.
