Truex loses pit stall selection for Sunday's race
Before Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway even begins, Martin Truex Jr.’s Furniture Row Racing team has suffered a setback.
Truex qualified second-fastest for the race, but because the No. 78 Toyota team picked up its fourth written warning of season on Friday at the track, the team will lose the ability to select its pit stall on Sunday, NASCAR officials confirmed to Motorsport.com.
Truex’s team picked up its fourth warning for failing the Laser Inspection Station – part of pre-qualifying inspection – multiple times on Friday.
The No. 78 was one of the final four cars to pass inspection and joined Round 1 of Sprint Cup qualifying Friday while the 20-minute first-round session was already underway.
Regan Smith, whose Tommy Baldwin Racing team picked up its fourth warning last weekend in Pocono for failing the LIS in pre-race inspection also lost pit stall selection this weekend. Truex will pick before Smith’s team based on owners points.
