NASCAR unveiled a brand new Trackside Superstore at Pocono on Friday.
On Friday at Pocono International Raceway, NASCAR and sports retailer Fanatics unveiled the next generation in at-track merchandise setups. Gone (mostly) are the haulers that have become a familiar sight at every Sprint Cup race. In their place is the NASCAR Trackside Superstore. Team Penske still brought haulers at the track but will join the new system soon.
About the Superstore
The temporary facility takes up 60,000 square feet, holding $2.5 million dollars in retail inventory. 58 drivers and 24 race teams are represented. There are also 60 centralized check-out stations for simplified purchasing, along with 12 online shopping stations.
Outside of the heavy rain that hindered the setup process, there's been no problems in the construction of the store. Pocono President and CEO Brandon Igdalsky said the tents were 'unbelievable' and withstood the inclement weather without issue.
Harvick and Truex present
"I'm so excited that we are able to launch this here at Pocono," he said during the unveil. "Thanks to NASCAR and Fanatics for allowing us to be the first ones to introduce this to all these great fans. NASCAR's done a great job to enhance the fan experience and this is just the next level."
2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Kevin Harvick and June Pocono winner Martin Truex Jr. were present for the ribbon cutting.
"I can't tell you how many questions I get on Twitter asking where do I get that hat or that shirt," said Truex. "This makes it easy. Everyone goes in there, finds their favorite driver and find what they're looking for easy."
NASCAR partners with Fanatics
"I walked through my section and a couple of the other sections to see how simple it really is. We're excited and you can kind of see the step we've taken forward in our sport," said Harvick.
"This has been a huge undertaking," added a Fanatics representative. "We started this really, about a year ago when Fanatics was awarded this business in September. The goal of this is to make a better fan experience overall - to offer you more products than you've ever seen before. New, unique items that you've never had at the track before. An example is that there are 10,000 new era hats here. There's a ton of great new products out here for (the fans). We want your feedback and it will only get better and better.
Ross Tannenbaum, the President of Fanatics was present as well. "This is a big day. We've worked so hard to get to this point and I hope you appreciate what we've done here. There are a lot of big winners today and the biggest winners are the fans."
Citing the large quantity of merchandise and variety in products, he said the fans "will see how much better this is."
"Also understand the efforts that will take place over the next year or two to make this even better. This is the first step in a long-term process to make this the best shopping experience in all of sports."
