SHELL TEAM READY FOR GOOD RUN AT NEW HAMPSHIRE INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY TONY STEWART SET FOR GUEST APPEARANCE AT STAFFORD SPEEDWAY
LOUDON, NH - Tony Stewart and the Shell Team are ready to have a good run at New Hampshire International Speedway. The May 9 Gumout Long Life Formula 200 will be the first time Stewart will compete in a NASCAR Busch Grand National car at the one-mile speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire.
“I am looking forward to my first race at New Hampshire International in the Shell Pontiac,” said Stewart. “The Shell Team and Bobby Labonte have had success there with solid top-five finishes and winning a pole. I’ve had a lot of laps on the track in my IRL car. Together, our experience should allow us to secure a solid starting spot with a good qualifying effort and develop a race set-up quickly.
“Our season has been a little more up and down than we expected,” Stewart stated. “We have had some very good qualifying efforts and strong runs in several races but have been in the wrong place at the wrong time getting caught up in crashes. It proves the continuity of our team is solid, we just need a little more good racing luck. Bryant (Frazier, crew chief) and the Shell crew have worked very hard to give me good race cars at every race. The car we are taking to Loudon is the car we raced at Hickory and tested for three days recently at Richmond. We know we have the right equipment to get the Shell Pontiac to the winner’s circle.”
“We were extremely pleased with the test results at Richmond,” said Frazier. “Tony has learned to communicate what the car is doing so we can make the necessary adjustments. We will be able to directly apply what we learned at Richmond to the Shell Pontiac when we get to New Hampshire. I know it’s been frustrating for Tony to have good runs going several times this year only to end up in a crash, but that’s what happens when you have a competitive series like NASCAR Busch Grand National. We are looking to swing the pendulum the other way at New Hampshire.”
To further promote his sponsor, Shell Oil Company, Stewart is scheduled to make an appearance at Stafford Springs, Connecticut’s Stafford Motor Speedway on Friday evening, May 8, as the guest of local Shell driver Dave Ellison. Ellison is a Shell Oil dealer in Glastonbury, Connecticut and a regular competitor in the late model division of the NASCAR Winston Racing Series at Stafford Speedway. Stewart will meet fans and sign autographs during the evening’s racing activities Ellison has logged several victories in his car and donates 100% of his winnings to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Stafford Speedway has matched his contributions. “We are extremely honored that Tony Stewart will be our guest this weekend at Stafford Speedway to promote Shell Oil,” said Ellison. “We are hoping he will bring us good luck at our first race of the season. We enjoy our business relationship with Shell Oil and welcome the opportunity to provide them further exposure through our racing program at Stafford Speedway.” . In addition, Stewart will participate in a driver’s autograph session at New Hampshire International Speedway on Friday, May 8 at noon in the main grandstands.
The Gumout Long Life Formula 200 is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday, May 9. The race will be televised live by TNN with Eli Gold and Buddy Baker serving in the booth. MRN will broadcast the race to over 200 radio station affiliates nationwide.
