She Has What It Takes
Cincinnati, Ohio, -- -- Tide asked a simple question. Are you NASCAR'S ultimate fan? Do you have what it takes to be the ultimate "NASCAR Fan of the Year?"
Anna Kennay surely does!
In a nationwide contest sponsored by Tide, Kennay and her husband won an all expense paid "Ultimate Fan Weekend" at the inaugural Jiffy Lube Miami 400 at the Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex on the weekend of November 12 - 14, 1999 all for the price of a photograph.
Kennay, a thirty-nine year old mail carrier for the U.S. Postal service from Ashton, Illinois, best summed up what it means to stand behind the most popular form of motorsports. The photograph she submitted depicts her hitchhiking to a race in her racing outfit. This, however, was no ordinary outfit! Her outfit consisted of a Terry Labonte t-shirt, a Jeff Gordon flag wrapped as a skirt, Kyle and Richard Petty cowboy boots and a NASCAR leather jacket. Anna topped off her outfit with a homemade hat that features a bottle of liquid Tide and diecast toy race cars, and a purse made from a box of Tide.
"I couldn't believe it when I got the phone call telling me that I won the contest." Kennay said. "We were absolutely tickled to death. When I went to the post office to pick up the certified letter, my sister-in-law and a bunch of my friends went with me. Everyone had to read the letter and everyone wanted the years supply of Tide!"
"My husband Donnie and I have always been fans but it really all changed in 1995 when we bought a satellite dish and were able to watch every NASCAR race and related TV show," Anna continued. "We're more than just fans, we're obsessed with the whole sport."
Anna, whose favorite driver is Terry Labonte, has attended only one NASCAR Winston Cup event. "We went to the Southern 500 at Darlington last year and were in such awe of everything that I can't remember everything that happened. That's one of the reasons we're really looking forward to this trip. With all the neat things the Tide people have planned for us, it will be like Christmas for three days. We just want to soak it all in and enjoy everything. We can't wait to get to Miami and ride in the pace car!" Kennay said.
In addition to the pace car ride, Anna and her husband will receive pit and garage passes at the race, a custom-designed Tide/NASCAR leather jacket, an official checkered flag signed by the Winston Cup drivers, and a year's supply of Tide and Downy.
