FORT WORTH-DALLAS (March 20, 1999) - Despite rumors to the contrary, tickets are still available for the April 2 DIRECTV 500 NASCAR Winston Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway.
"The general perception is that the race sells out overnight," said speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. "Many fans assume there couldn't possibly be any seats left just two weeks out. We brought in 16,000 temporary seats and recently released 1,000 frontstretch seats, making it possible for even more fans to see the DIRECTV 500. If we hadn't added the temporary seats, we would indeed be sold out by now."
Gossage said he was recently made aware of the misperception by some fans who said they were disappointed they wouldn't be able to attend the race since it was already sold out.
"I wondered if they knew something I didn't," laughed Gossage. "I guess it's flattering in a way. The fans know this is will be a sellout event again this year and figure that by this time, they're out of luck. The good news is, there's still a little time."
Ticket sales for the April 1 Albertson's 300 presented by Pop Secret Busch Series event are also running as strong as last year. The crowd for last years' race was the largest of the season for the Busch Series.
"The fans know good racing when they see it, and the Busch Series has consistently offered that here at Texas," said Gossage. "There will be a lot of talented drivers racing for one of the largest purses of the year. We expect more than a dozen Winston Cup drivers to enter the race. Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon, Jeff and Ward Burton and Terry Labonte are just a few of the drivers planning to run along with Busch Series regulars Randy LaJoie and Ron Hornaday. It'll be a great race."
Tickets for the DIRECTV 500 and Albertson's 300 presented by Pop Secret are available at the speedway ticket office, by calling the ticket hotline at (817) 215-8500, through Ticketmaster, or by going online to www.texasmotorspeedway.com.
