Nextel All-Star Open Qualifying
RICKY RUDD - No. 21 Keep It Genuine Taurus (Qualified 11th)
"That's quite a bit better than we practiced. We're fairly happy with it in race trim and it was actually really racy in race trim. It wasn't as good in qualifying trim, but they made some changes to try to make it go better for qualifying and it helped. Something isn't quite right because it's really evil getting in the corner and bouncing around quite a bit and darting around, but they got it calmed down. That's why we were able to pick up a little bit. It's not where we want to be, but it's much better."
IS THIS YOUR KIND OF RACE TOMORROW? "Really, the way this car is set, it's not super-fast for the first four or five laps, but then it settles in and it's one of the quickest cars out there. I don't know. Twenty laps, you don't have a whole lot of time to wait because you've got to get going. There's no second, third and fourth, it's all about winning, so it just depends. If it takes 10 laps for the tires to go away, that gives us 10 laps to race, so I don't know. We'll have to wait and see."
JEFF BURTON - No. 99 Roundup Taurus (Qualified 17th)
"It bottomed out real hard over in one and two, but it was OK. When it bottomed out, it went straight and I was able to get right back in the gas. It actually went through one and two pretty fast, but when it did that in three and four, it made the car get really, really loose. It was bottoming out so bad, that I just couldn't go."
YOU'VE GOT A LONG WAY TO GO AND A SHORT TIME TO GET THERE. "We did it last year, so we can do it again. We started 18th or something like that last year. Even though it's certainly not what you want, if they get to mixing it up up there, you can make some stuff happen and get there."
