Elliott Sadler Psyched for All-Star Challenge
QUOTING M&M'S DRIVER ELLIOTT SADLER:
"The NEXTEL All-Star Challenge will prove to be one of the best races of the year. Everyone wants to win and a lot of guys bring their newest bodies, chassis and motors to see if the research and development work at the shop is paying off. Sometimes you unload the car and you are hooked up and sometimes you unload and figure out you have a lot of work to do. This race is very different than other All-Star atmospheres in professional sports. Remembering who won the NFL Pro Bowl game or the NBA All-Star game may be tough but race fans always remember who wins our All-Star race. Everyone wants to make sure their sponsors are on the highlight reel - we want to see the colorful and fun M&M'S in victory lane.
"Qualifying is important and the pit stop is the most important part of that. I have to make sure I get on pit road perfect and then in and out of the pit box perfect. The guys have to perform a great stop because the time in the pits during qualifying will make or break your run. If I'm a tenth slower on the race track but our pit stop is a second faster then we've made up what we lost on the race track and then some. I always enjoy the synergy around qualifying because the drivers and crews have to lean on each other in order to sit on the pole.
"I think the All-Star race at Lowe's Motor Speedway is great for the crews because they get to spend an extra week with their family. Next year we are going to be traveling out west more often, which means these guys are not going to be able to drive to those races and they'll be spending time getting on and off of airplanes. Racing in Charlotte is great for all of the guys that work hard to make it happen for us week in and week out. I'm a fan of keeping this race in Charlotte because Humpy Wheeler and his staff have done a lot of things to make the event successful. If you can win at Lowe's Motor Speedway then you know you've brought a car with a good chassis, body and motor. It takes a well balanced package to win at Lowe's Motor Speedway."
QUOTING CREW CHIEF TODD PARROTT:
"We are taking a brand new carfor the All-Star Challenge. My advice to Elliott? Drive it like you stole it. We are going there to win - second place is the first loser in this one."
QUOTING M&M'S SPOTTER BRETT GRIFFIN:
"The All-Star race can be compared to a cage match. There's no holding back or waiting for the right moment. Each segment is very short so the drivers have to work hard and fast. In the first segment they need to be cautiously aggressive. In the last two segments they have to let everything hang out. The guys will block, bump and do whatever it takes to get to the front. This race is all about bragging rights and big bucks. It's one of my favorite races of the year because no one holds anything back. It's all about winning and not logging laps. Second is truly the first loser in this race whereas second on any given Sunday would be a great points day. Points don't count this weekend so it's all or nothing come show time."
