One of NASCAR's more thrilling races took a hit in viewership.
Fox Sports 1, the reincarnation of SPEED Channel, is very pleased with this past weekend's NASCAR race, but the series may not feel the same way. For Fox, Martinsville was the first ever points race to be broadcast on FS1 and it became their fourth best audience ever, only out-done by the 2014 NLCS games, according to Austin Karp.
However, compared to the same race from 2014, Martinsville's 4.06 million viewers was not that impressive compared to the 6.17 million from the previous year. Of course, the slide is to be expected when you have a fairly new network such as this.
I expect the ratings to get better over time as more people purchase FS1 and the channel grows in popularity, but as it stands right now ... NASCAR races are good for Fox Sports 1, but not so much the other way around.
