Menard Turns in another Solid Top-20
FORT WORTH, TX (April 7, 2008) -- Paul Menard and the No. 15 Menards team turned in another solid performance in the Lone Star state of Texas in today's Samsung 500. Menard brought his Dale Earnhardt Inc. Chevrolet home in 17th place after 500 miles of racing excitement.
"Overall, it was a good day on track with the Menards/Quaker State Chevy," Menard said. "We struggled to find the right balance early in the race, but we were able to stay on the lead lap for most of the race, which was an accomplishment in itself here today."
Menard started the race in 19th place and passed a car a lap for the first five laps, settling comfortably in the 14th place spot. When the caution flag flew on lap 29, Menard was up to 12th place. After a routine four-tire pit stop, Menard returned to the track in 15th place and radioed the crew that he thought he may have a motor problem. He continued to click off laps, though, running speeds as quick as the top-10 pack of cars. Crew Chief Doug Randolph instructed Menard to keep up the good work.
"This is one of those long races where you have to keep working hard no matter what happens on the race track or in the pits," Randolph reasoned. "Paul does a great job of staying focused out there and the over-the-wall crew continues to exceed expectations on pit road."
Throughout the entire race, Menard maintained a strong hold on a spot in the top-20. Despite the rapid pace at which the leaders were lapping cars, Menard managed to stay on the lead lap until lap 236. Still being shown in the 18th position, Menard continued his battle until the final lap.
Menard's 17th place finish allowed the driver to maintain his 23rd place spot in NASCAR Sprint Cup driver's points and his 24th place spot in the owner's standings.
