Waltrip Earns Top-20 in Texas

Fort Worth, Texas (April 4) - Michael Waltrip piloted the NAPA AUTO PARTS Chevrolet to its second-best finish of the season gaining a spot in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series points battle during Sunday's Radio Shack/Samsung 500. Waltrip finished 20th which moved him to 33rd in the championship standings, 275 points out of the 10th position.

"Clearly wasn't the day we hoped for," said Waltrip about his 20th-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway. "We had some times during the race when our car was really good and other times that were really bad. We elected to take two tires early in the race and when we did that our car did not react well to the change and it got us behind. We were able to bounce back and get into the top-20, our second top-20 of the year. We'll take that finish and understand that if we can get more of these kinds of finishes mixed in with some top-10s and top-fives, we'll find ourselves right where we want to be.

"Sunday wasn't a great day, but it wasn't a day that killed us either. We gained a little bit of ground in the points and that's what we are aiming for with every race."

The NAPA team will enjoy a weekend off, but Waltrip will race his No. 99 NASCAR Busch Series car at Nashville SuperSpeedway on Saturday afternoon. The Busch race will be broadcast by FX and MRN Radio at 4:00 p.m. (EDT). The NEXTEL Cup Series will return to racing at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday, April 18th.
