KASEY KAHNE (No. 9 Budweiser Dodge Charger)
DO YOU FEEL THAT NASCAR CAN SURVIVE IF ONE (OR MORE) OF THE CAR MANUFACTURERES GOES UNDER? "Yeah, I think that NASCAR will definitely survive. There are a lot of people involved in this sport and the manufacturers are a huge part of it. Hopefully, they can stay a part of it. I've always enjoyed Chevrolet, Toyota, Dodge and Ford going against one another, there's a little bit of a rivalry. I've always enjoyed that side of it. They can only do what they can do. Whatever happens, we'll figure it out and get through it."
DOES WINNING AT THIS TRACK IN THE PAST GIVE YOU MORE CONFIDENCE WHEN YOU COME BACK TO RACE HERE? "Yeah, because you know that you can win here. Things change. The cars change. I'd love to win here again. This is one of my favorite places to go. It's one of my favorite races of the year. I look forward to this weekend. I think that we have a great shot at running well today and on Sunday. We'll just keep working on our Budweiser Dodge and hopefully it turns out well. But yeah, I think that we have a great shot."
HOW IMPORTANT ARE THE NEXT SIX OR SEVEN RACES? "They're important. I think that the short tracks are important too. We messed up last week and really missed it bad. Other than that, we've had a really consistent last four races. I feel like the next six races can be really good. If we keep on doing the same things, I think that we'll be fine."
YOU'RE CURRENTLY NINTH IN DRIVER POINT'S. DO YOU START TO FOLLOW THE POINT STANDINGS MORE? "I think that you start to pay attention to where you're at. It's nice to be on this side of the fence and not on the other side. All of the Richard Petty Motorsports cars are pretty good with points. That's a good thing. We've had two in the last two or three years in the top 35 and now we have four. It's definitely nice. Everyone is doing a good job."
THE TEMPERATURE IS GOING TO BE ABOUT 10-11 DEGREES COOLER TODAY VERSUS TOMORROW. HOW IMPORTANT ARE TODAY'S SESSIONS FOR SUNDAY? "I think that they're important for qualifying and after that, it doesn't mean anything. The track will change. Everything will be different for Saturday and Sunday. It's fun to qualify here. It's a really cool track to run on. We'll see how qualifying goes and then make changes and be prepared for the next couple of days."
WHAT MAKES YOUR CAR GOOD HERE AT TEXAS? "The biggest thing is the front end. You have to get the left front working. You have to make sure that your front two tires are cutting real well. You need your back (of the car) to be in the track real well. The biggest thing for me is the front tires. That's usually what we struggle with here; the front tires aren't working good as they need to work. The couple times that they have worked really well, we've either been first of second. This should be a good track for us."
