FORT WORTH, Texas (April 15, 2007) -- Joe Nemechek and the Ginn Racing Team continue to make gains early in the 2007 Nextel Cup season. The No. 13 CertainTeed Chevrolet driver snared an 18th-place finish in Sunday's Samsung 500.
The result at the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway was the fourth top-20 finish of the season for the new racing team.
"We know we're better than what we're producing in results, but you have to be patient when you're a new team," said Nemechek. "I've been with new teams before but none have jelled as quick as this team has. It's a lot of fun going to the races each week, knowing that we have the talent and resources to continually get better."
Nemechek started the 334-lap race from the 25th position. He moved into the teens early and appeared to have a fast car.
"We had some handling issues, but the car got better as the race went on and you can't ask for much more than that," said Nemechek. "We had great pit stops all day except for the one miscue."
The pit stop miscue that Nemechek was referring to was costly since it was under green flag conditions. The incident, which happened on Lap 114, caused the CertainTeed Chevy to fall a lap down and lose track position.
"We win and lose as a team," offered Nemechek. "These things happen -- you just have to suck it up and battle back, which is what we did. We were never able to get back on the lead lap, but we fought hard and the pit stops were excellent. This is a good team and those top-10 and top-five results are going to come."
The next opportunity for Nemechek and the No. 13 team will be Saturday evening's (April 21) Nextel Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway.
